Cameras were banned, which was a shame as the weather was gorgeous. No children allowed either. No problems there. But no spectators? What the hell was this place.

Driving over a deserted six lane motorway at six in the morning, we arrived at a huge flat amphitheatre.

We were very privileged to drive this place. I had the most exciting day of my life, driving on the wrong side of the road flat out, driving over the grass to make a fast exit on a roundabout. There are even white lines in the middle of the road, which we ignored. I saw no traffic lights.

We went a bit too fast at one point and scraped into a motorway barrier at 70 mph. Wallop! A bolt ripped two bullet holes in the side. Mike reckons that made us faster (he was on top form).

It was so hot and our car so small, that our tyres were picking up rubber rather than wearing it out. We attacked all day and got our best result ever. 8th out of 13 cars. A great improvement. We held our position all day. We finished. We won points.

PRESS
This last month has been excellent. As well as lots of clippings in the Observer and the Oldham Chronicle and Advertiser, Hopwood Hall College have had thousands of colour leaflets distributed in the papers.

There is some dispute over the number but I can confirm that at least 8000 have arrived in people's homes and businesses. Our team features smack bang in the middle in FULL COLOUR. I reckon this is our best 'hit' yet, bar the TV in January.

We've got a month to prepare for Builth Wells, on June 5th. The list of things to do and buy is bigger than ever. I prefer driving on the loose so it should be an even better result, now that Jim has strengthened the car.
